My consultation with Dr Awal was like a breath of fresh air and would highly recommend. I felt heard and understood instantly at a time where I was so low, lost and felt alone with my symptoms.
Dr Anwal gave me hope and inspiration sharing her own experiences. Her knowledge and guidance was incredibly helpful and insightful. I was prescribed HRT and suggested supplements which has made me feel me again, I am truly grateful 🙏💕

I was advised of Dr Nadira Awal by a fellow menopause warrior via Facebook menopause group. I decided to take the plunge and book a consultation with her as I have been struggling with this journey for 2 years.

Had a lovely informative and calming chat with her over my challenges. She explained an awful lot to me, made me understand what I'm up against. She was extremely knowledgeable in her field of expertise. Her recommendations were just what I needed and hopefully my GP will take on board her recommendations and I will start to feel a lot better.

Speaking to someone who actually listens to you and your needs was very welcoming. I would recommend her to anyone who needs help and guidance.

Thank you Nadira.

I couldn’t recommend Dr Nadira Awal enough! After over a year of back and forth from my GP with peri menopause symptoms and being sent away with anti depressants I finally decided to go and find someone else who could help me. I did my research and decided on Pause & Co Healthcare. During the hour long consultation we went through the list of symptoms I’d being having in detail, she helped me to understand my symptoms and recommended ways for me to deal with them. She explained all of the options available to me going forward and I finally feel like I’ve been listened to, my symptoms have been looked at holistically and I feel like a weight has been lifted.

Frequently asked questions

What are the consequences of low oestrogen levels?

Low oestrogen, especially in females, can bring several health risks:

Short-term:

  • Disrupted menstrual cycle: Irregular periods, lighter or heavier bleeding, or missed periods.
  • Uncomfortable symptoms: Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings, fatigue, headaches, and decreased libido.

Long-term:

  • Bone health issues: Increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.
  • Heart disease: Higher risk of cardiovascular problems like heart attack and stroke.
  • Cognitive decline: Increased risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Urinary tract infections: Thinning of the urethra makes UTIs more likely.

Remember, the severity of these risks depends on many factors, including your age, overall health, and the cause of low oestrogen

Are there natural remedies for menopause symptoms?

While natural remedies like diet, exercise, and some supplements can potentially help manage certain menopause symptoms, their effectiveness varies and they are not a guaranteed solution.

Herbal remedies like black cohosh and evening primrose oil show mixed results and may have side effects. It’s important to talk to your doctor before trying any remedies, as they can interact with medications or have underlying health risks.

Ultimately, a balanced approach combining lifestyle changes with medical guidance is often the best way to navigate menopause symptoms.

Is vaginal dryness common? What can I do about it?

Vaginal dryness is quite common, affecting many women at various points in their lives. It’s often caused by hormonal changes, like those during menopause or while breastfeeding, but can also arise from medications or other health conditions. Symptoms include burning, itching, discomfort, and pain during sex.

Several options can help, from simple lifestyle changes like avoiding harsh soaps and using lubricants during sex, to medical remedies like vaginal moisturisers, hormone therapy, or prescription medications.  Remember, vaginal dryness is normal and there’s no shame in seeking help to address it.

How long do menopause symptoms last?

Menopause symptoms can last for months or even years, with the average duration around 4-5 years after the last period. However, the experience varies widely. Some people have few or no symptoms, while others experience them for a decade or longer. The frequency and intensity also fluctuate over time, with some symptoms improving while others emerge. While most symptoms eventually fade, some like joint pain and vaginal dryness can persist even after menopause.

What are the symptoms of menopause?

Menopause, the end of menstruation, brings a range of physical and emotional changes. Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep problems, mood swings, anxiety, depression, dry skin, hair loss, weight gain, joint pain, and urinary issues. These can start years before and continue after periods stop.

What is the average age of the menopause?
While most women in the UK experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, the average age for the final period is around 51. This transition, however, marks the culmination of a gradual shift called perimenopause, typically starting in the late 40s. Individual cases can vary based on factors like genetics, ethnic backgrounds and lifestyle.
